INVISIBLE IN CANAL (IIC)
Invisible In Canal (IIC) is the smallest type of hearing aid fitting. It sits comfortably deep inside the ear canal and is completely invisible when worn.
COMPLETELY IN CANAL (CIC)
These hearing aid devices fit completely inside the ear canal. Only the tip of a tiny plastic line shows outside the canal, which is used to insert and remove the instrument.
IN THE CANAL (ITC)
ITC (In The Canal) hearing aids fit all of their components inside a small shell, which is moulded to the shape of the ear to fit inside the opening of the ear canal.
IN THE EAR (ITE)
In-the-ear hearing aids house their components in a custom made shell that fills the bowl of the ear. Their size makes them easier to handle than some other types of hearing aids.
RECEIVER IN CANAL (RIC)
These hearing aids use an in-ear amplifier to direct sound from the shell behind the ear through an acoustic tube and in to the receiver sitting inside the ear.
OTE AND BTE
Behind The Ear (BTE) and Over The Ear (OTE) hearing aids contain their components in a casing which fits at the back of the ear, and direct enhanced sound in to the ear.

What are the best hearing aids on the market?
The best hearing aids on the market are the ones that best improve your individual circumstances. A pair of hearing aids might be perfect for one patient and the same pair might be less effective for another. It’s important that the hearing aids you are using are tailored specifically to your needs and that might not always mean you have the latest and best technology.
Are cheap hearing aids worth it?
The quality of most cheaper hearing aids simply isn’t as good as leading brand hearing aids. This usually means that they aren’t as good at distinguishing between different noises, for example speech and background noise. Cheaper hearing aids also won’t be tailored to your specific requirements. For example, if you use the telephone a lot or want a hearing aid to be invisible, the cheaper models wouldn’t be the best.
How do I know if I need a hearing aid?
There are two very common tell tale signs that you might be a good candidate for a hearing test and hearing aids. The first is if you find yourself asking friends and family to repeat themselves regularly. This is a good indication that there is a change in the quality of your hearing and it would be worth getting it checked. The second sign is if friends or family comment that you have the television on too loud. You may notice a change in your hearing or just suspect that something isn’t quite right and this would also be a good indication that you would benefit from a hearing test.
